The District of Elkford is modernizing our animal responsibility bylaw. Council has given this bylaw its first two readings and is looking for public input before further consideration.
Highlights of the changes include:
- Introducing the designation of aggressive and dangerous dogs, enabling the District to increase control of, and increase fines and licensing fees for, dogs that have demonstrated aggressive or dangerous behaviour.
- Introducing the ability to responsibly keep laying hens on residential properties.
- Introducing the ability to responsibly keep bees on residential properties.
- Introducing new regulations to promote responsible animal ownership, such as rules around tethering or chaining animals.
- Combining the animal control bylaw with the urban wildlife bylaw to make it easier for everyone to understand, abide by and administer the rules around wild and domesticated animals alike.
